About Amanda AverilloAs an artist and Tutor I have experimented with most forms of Printmaking and now find myself working mainly with the Mono printing technique. It is a painterly method whereby the image is made on acetate sheets and printed in layers onto dampened paper. This enables me to express myself by scraping, drawing and dropping solvents into the ink while it is wet on the slippery plastic, helping me to create images with light and atmosphere. Therefore each print is unique as once printed there is little or no ink left on the acetate sheet. As a keen photographer I often go out and 'look' for an image or pick a time when the light is inspiring at the seashore or in the countryside. Other times things just happen that make wonderful images and if I'm lucky enough to have my camera to hand then I click the shutter. The photograph is just the starting point though and I don't follow it literally, preferring to loosen things up with mark making and colour and always aiming to capture the 'light'. All my work draws inspiration from the sea, and each piece has its own story to tell. When I produce a piece it becomes a narrative, the tale of a journey. Objects discovered on the shoreline find themselves becoming part of the story...I use a variety of decoration techniques as my ideas continue to flow and move on to create different avenues and new approaches. Ships, boats, and wrecks are the main fabric of the work, made from clay that has the textures of metal and wood objects salvaged, press moulded, and patched together to produce a variety of forms that look as though they have sailed the Seven Seas. British Wildlife portrayed in the raw using ink and a secret ingredient, along side oil studies of birds and animals of Britain in quirky, obscure tableaux. Originally from Staffordshire, Jane trained for eight years as an illustrator. Now living in the marshes of Sandwich, she takes the wildlife surrounding the studio as models. An exhibitor with the Sunday Times watercolour competition, Jane has also exhibited with The Royal Society of British Artists as well as many galleries throughout the country and worldwide.
